Streszczenie referatu
The advent of space geodesy since the early eighties has revolutionized our understanding of the Earth system, by quantifying the time variations of its three fundamental properties: its shape, its gravity field and its rotation in space. Answers to critical societal and scientific questions, such as precise positioning, territory and land management, natural disasters, interoperability of geospatial data, but more stringently, the quantification of the sea level rise and its variability in space and time, require the availability and long-term stable global geodetic reference frame. The International Terrestrial Reference Frame (ITRF) is the world standard today, the indispensable reference that is built on international cooperation over the past three decades for the benefit of countries, regions and globally.
The presentation introduces the concept of reference systems and frames, but also possible reference frame representations for a deformable Earth. It also details the ITRF genesis, its development over the years, current achievement and scientific results, but also the strengths and weaknesses of the geodetic infrastructures of the four geodetic techniques contributing to its construction: VLBI, SLR, GNSS and DORIS. It also briefly introduces the objectives of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) initiative on the Global Geodetic Reference Frame for Sustainable development. Future trends and work plan of both ITRF and UN-GGIM sub-committee on geodesy conclude the presentation.
